Friday, March 23, 2012: After the magnificence and magic of yesterday, today we will be much more mundane. It is a small strolling through day in the streets of Old Rennes I propose.
As we started late, we'll eat. Management: Rencard (also known as the Scooby-Doo) with its famous sandwich'' The Great Scooby Doo'' (3 burgers, fried a ladle, a mayo-ketchup sauce ladle Emmental, salad , tomato and onion, all in a bread and heated like a panini). it costs 5€ and it is terrible! Well, it takes 1,000 calories in a sandwich, but I was not hungry until dinner. (it is at 20 rue du Jacquet field, 2 steps from the metro Sainte-Anne) This is the monster:

After the hearty meal, up to the visit! (It's hard to get under way after eating like that ...) There will be a bit more religious visits compared to usual. It begins with the Notre-Dame-de-Bonne-Nouvelle. Built between 1884 and 1904, it replaced an older church located north of the place where now stands the basilica.

We continue in the old Rennes to find the old prison that has been converted into a bar:

Second Basilica of the day : Saint-Sauveur Basilica, built between 1703 and 1768 :

We leave the old layout of the interior walls by the door Mordelaise. Its location dates from the third century because of its constructionn ramparts but she only dates from the fifteenth century. This was the main city of Rennes entry. It takes its name from the nearby town of Mordelles, located in the center of the door.

At the entrance, a cat is the guardian of the door (it looks like he is pushing while constipated right ?) :

Again the half-timbered houses are present and very colorful :

Religious last stop of the day: Saint-Pierre Cathedral Rennes (yes, St-Pierre, as the one in Geneva and other cities again!). The end of construction in 1845 is one of nine historic cathedrals of Britain. Renovation since 2009, initially practiced the end of the work planned for 2011 was postponed to 2013. The vault of the nave is sumptuously decorated in gold by the artist Auguste-Louis Duval Jobbé which contrasts with 44 Ionic columns (the famous Greek columns). Moreover, one of the chairs of the Nave is named after a Countess. I have not investigated whether there were others, but I guess so! ).

Last visit today: The Palace of the Parliament of Brittany. Built between 1618 and 1655 must be fully restored after the fire due to the 1994 event. The four statues on the roof of the building, dating from 1881, are gilded with gold and represent the Law, Strength, Eloquence and Justice.

Thus the day is over. The next day we go to ... Brest! See a person known for his songs cartoons 80s and 90s and in a club'' Do''.
